HSBC SVNS 2024 takes place on a global stage across eight rounds with the Grand Final featuring both men's and women's competitions involving 12 teams in each. In the women's competition all six of World Rugby's regional associations are represented with past HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series winners Australia & New Zealand flying the flag for Oceania along with Fiji. The European contingent includes France, Spain, Ireland, and Great Britain. Africa is represented by South Africa, Asia by Japan, South America by Brazil, and North America by USA & Canada.

The Men's competition features New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Fiji, South Africa, Ireland, France, Great Britain, Spain, Canada, Argentina, and the USA.

The series features seven tournaments with each having an Olympic-style format with points awarded for placements. The grand final in Madrid features the top 8 teams.

About HSBC SVNS

The HSBC Rugby Sevens World Series, known as the HSBC Sevens Series for sponsorship reasons, is an annual series of international rugby sevens tournaments organised by World Rugby. The competition featured national sevens teams and was first established during the 1999-2000 season as the IRB World Sevens Series. Its primary objectives are to promote elite-level international rugby sevens and transform the game into a viable commercial product.

The format includes weekend tournaments all across the world, starting in Dubai & travelling to Cape Town, Perth, Vancouver, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and, Singapore. These weekend tournaments operate in an Olympic-style format with points awarded depending on placement. With the top 8 teams then going on to compete at The Grand Final in Madrid the weekend of May 31st-June 2nd.

The series is played in a round-robin tournament format, featuring multiple legs held in different countries. Teams compete against each other in a condensed version of rugby union, with matches consisting of two seven-minute halves.
