The Human League is an English synth-pop band that was formed in Sheffield in 1977. Initially, they started as an experimental electronic outfit but later achieved widespread commercial success after restructuring their lineup and signing with Virgin Records. They gained significant popularity with their third album "Dare" in 1981, which included several hit singles, including the UK and US number one hit "Don't You Want Me".
Over the years, the band went through lineup changes, but the only consistent member has been vocalist and songwriter Phil Oakey. One of their best-known lineups was from 1980-1985, which included Phillip Oakey as the vocalist, Joanne Catherall as a vocalist, and Susanne Sulley as a vocalist.
The Human League's music is characterized by its synth-driven sound and catchy melodies. They were one of the pioneering bands in the synth-pop genre and had a significant impact on the music scene, proving that synthesizers could have soul, hooks, melody, and groove like traditional instruments.
