His debut single "Never Gonna Give You Up" became a No. 1 hit in 25 countries. Astley was born in Great Sankey, Warrington, Lancashire, England, and grew up in Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside. He currently lives in Richmond, London, with his Danish wife, Lene Bausager, and their daughter, Emilie.
After his initial success, Astley released a string of hit singles in the late 1980s and early 1990s, including "Together Forever," "Whenever You Need Somebody," and "She Wants to Dance with Me." He continued to release albums and tours throughout the years but took a break from the music industry in the early 1990s to focus on his family.
In the late 2000s, Astley experienced an unexpected resurgence in popularity, thanks to the internet phenomenon known as "Rickrolling." The prank involved users being redirected to the music video for "Never Gonna Give You Up" when they expected to see something else. This led to millions of views and a new generation of fans discovering Astley's music.
Astley returned to the music scene in 2007 with a new album called "Keep It Turned On". He has since released several more studio albums, including "50" in 2016, which became his first UK No. 1 album in almost 30 years. Astley continues to tour and perform around the world, showcasing his iconic voice and beloved hits.
Besides his music career, Astley has also worked as a radio host and released his autobiography, titled "Rick Astley: The Autobiography," in 2018.
