Twenty One Pilots is an American musical duo that formed in 2009. The band was formed in Columbus, Ohio, by lead vocalist Tyler Joseph along with Nick Thomas and Chris Salih, who both left in 2011. Since their departure, the line-up has consisted of Joseph and drummer Josh Dun.

The band's name is said to have been inspired by an Arthur Miller play called "All My Sons," which features a character who allows a shipment of faulty aeroplane parts to be sent out, resulting in the death of several pilots, hence "twenty-one pilots".
