Salford Red Devils History
Salford Red Devils have been at the heart of the community for nearly 150 years, evolving through countless changes and leaving an indelible mark on rugby league. Starting as Salford Football Club in 1879, the club played its first match against Dewsbury and later adopted the iconic red kit in 1889.
The move to The Willows in 1901 marked a significant chapter in the club's history, with their first match there resulting in a 2-0 victory over Swinton. Coach Lance Todd led the team to glory in the 1930s, establishing Salford as the "Team of the Decade." The nickname "Red Devils" came about during a tour of France in 1934.
The club relocated to the Salford Stadium in 2012 and underwent a resurgence in recent years, reaching the Super League Grand Final in 2019 and the Challenge Cup Final in 2020.
