Aston Villa History

Aston Villa Football Club, also known as ‘The Villa’ or ‘The Villans,’ is one of the oldest and most successful football clubs in England. Founded in 1874, the club has a rich history that includes seven First Division titles, seven FA Cup trophies, five League Cups, and a European Cup victory.

Villa are one of the 12 teams involved in the foundation of the English Football League in 1888, with one of the club’s directors, William McGregor, being the founder of it.

The early years of Aston Villa saw the club win four FA Cup titles in six years, including a 2-0 victory over West Brom in a high-stakes version of the West Midlands derby in 1887. The club's first league title came in 1894, and they went on to win six more, the last being in 1980/81.

Villa Park has been the home of Aston Villa since 1897 and is one of the most iconic and historic stadiums in English football. It has a capacity of 42,682, making it the 10th largest football stadium in England.

The stadium is split into four stands; Holte End (south stand), Trinity Road Stand (west stand), Doug Ellis Stand (east stand), and the North Stand. Each stand has two tiers, except for the Trinity Road Stand, which has three.
