Salford City F.C.'s story starts around 1940 when a team of boys formerly playing for the Central Mission team at the Lads Club continued as Salford Central, who would become a dominant force in the Eccles & District League in the 1950s. From being founder members of the North West Counties League, Salford was a household name in the division for many years keeping its head above water in the upper reaches of Kersal while the masses flocked to the Willows for the rugby and Old Trafford for the football.

Salford established themselves in the eighth tier, surviving year-to-year and making small improvements until the arrival of the Class of ‘92 in 2014 significantly enhanced the club's fortunes. The added investment since from David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Peter Lim fuelled them to four promotions in five seasons to reach the Football League for the first time, while giving the City of Salford another sprouting success story to add to the wider regeneration and growth of the City.
