Brentford Football Club, nicknamed “The Bees,” has a rich and varied history since its establishment in 1889.
The club was formed by local sportsmen. Initially, the club played amateur football and was based at various grounds including at Benn’s Field in Little Ealing.
Brentford entered its first league competition in 1892-93 and finished the league undefeated. In the 1894/1895 season Brentford won its first competition, the West Middlesex Cup.
In the 1899/1900 season, Brentford turned professional after it joined the Southern League in 1898.
The club's first Football League match was against Exeter City in August 1920.
In the 21st century, Brentford has navigated lower-tier and top-tier football. In the 2008/2009 season, Brentford won the League Two title and achieved promotion to the premier league in 2021, for the first time since the 1946/1947 season.
