Rules of The Hundred

Match Structure

The namesake of The Hundred is the fact that each team is batting for 100 balls, trying to score as many runs as possible. The team with the most runs at the end of 100 balls wins the match, making it an exciting and fast-paced game as each innings is usually done in two and a half hours.

There are five balls in an over in The Hundred cricket, compared to the traditional six. The bowler can deliver five or ten consecutive balls, limited to a maximum 20 balls per game. Perhaps most interestingly, the fielding sides switch after every 10 balls, keeping the game fast-paced and engaging.

League Stage

The normal laws of cricket apply to The Hundred, except for a few major changes as it is a 100-ball game. The tournament begins with a league stage with the eight teams participating in four matches at home and four away, and then top three teams then progress to the knockout stage.

Knockout Stage

The knockout stage then continues with a more classic semi-final, quarter-final, and final format with matches played at the historic Lord’s Cricket Ground. In the height of summer, it’s bound to be a tournament you won’t want to miss. 

The Hundred Draft

As The Hundred is played by eight new teams, the players for these teams are chosen through a draft. Each squad has 16 players including three from overseas. During the draft, each team takes turns selecting players from a pool with the ability to reserve up to 10 players from their previous season’s squad.
