Tyler, The Creator is one of the most popular rappers out there, his alternative hip-hop setting him apart from the crowd since the early 2010s. He is known for his sometimes transgressive lyrics, but that has made him all the more popular with fans.

His most recent album, CHROMAKOPIA, has been a massive success, adding even more amazing songs to his discography with features from Doechii, Lola Young, Schoolboy Q, and more. In this blog post we list what we think are Tyler’s top ten songs.

Tyler, The Creator’s Best Songs in Order

No. 10: ‘Sticky’ ft. GloRilla, Sexyy Red & Lil Wayne

From Tyler, The Creator’s latest album, CHROMAKOPIA, ‘Sticky’ is tongue in cheek and carefree. Tyler often incorporates serious lyrics into his songs, but not on ‘Sticky,’ where he teams up with GloRilla, Sexyy Red and Lil Wayne for an ear-splitting brass section and incredibly catchy hook.

No. 9: ‘Boredom’ ft. Rex Orange County & Anna of the North

Originally released in 2017, ‘Boredom’ and the Flower Boy album gained a lot of traction during the 2020 lockdown. Everyone could relate to the lyrics of the song, being bored and stuck in your room wishing you could be out having fun with your friends. Coupled with the guitar and drum-led instrumental, it’s a perfect summertime song.

No. 8: Like Him’ ft. Lola Young

‘Like Him’ is an example of the more serious topics Tyler, The Creator addresses in his songs. With soul and piano influences, he raps about his childhood growing up with an absent father being told that he looks like him and wondering if he’d turn out like him. Accompanied by rising star Lola Young’s vocals, it becomes quite an emotional track as the outro features a message from Tyler's mother.

No. 7: ‘EARFQUAKE’

‘EARFQUAKE’ is one of Tyler’s most popular songs, from the critically acclaimed 2019 IGOR album. It has an uncredited feature from Playboi Carti, and could’ve even featured Rihanna had she not turned down the song. Instead the hook has Tyler’s raw vocals and addictive synth chords. The music video has Tyler dressed as his alter ego ‘Igor’ with an Andy Warhol-esque wig, which has become an iconic visual of the album.

No. 6: ‘WUSYANAME’ ft. Youngbopy Never Broke Again & Ty Dolla $ign

Tyler, The Creator often incorporates retro theming into his visuals, and CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST has the most overt use of this, as the stunning music video for ‘WUSYANAME’ compliments the 90s R&B track perfectly. It was the highest-charting song from the album, even earning Tyler a Grammy nomination for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

No. 5: ‘ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?’

‘ARE WE STILL FRIENDS?’ is a fan favourite song from IGOR, being one of Tyler's most-streamed songs despite not being a single. The song has a slower tempo and a laid-back R&B vibe, a perfect way to wrap up the themes of the album. The lyrics are about wanting to stay friends with an ex, not wanting to end the relationship with hatred and regret.

No. 4: ‘She’ ft. Frank Ocean

Tyler, The Creator and Frank Ocean make great collaborators, as both were part of the hip-hop collective Odd Future and have been friends for a long time. The instrumental is synth-heavy, with Frank Ocean providing smooth vocals in the chorus and a rap verse. Despite the catchy crooning, the lyrical content is quite dark, rapping about stalking and killing a girl he is obsessed with.

No. 3: ‘See You Again’ ft. Kali Uchis

‘See You Again’ is another song from Flower Boy that went viral on TikTok, leading it to gain chart success years after the song’s release. Originally it failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, but is now his most successful single to date. Kali Uchis has a beautiful voice, and it pairs perfectly with Tyler’s on this sun-soaked pop-rap love song.

No. 2: ‘911 / Mr. Lonely’ ft. Frank Ocean & Steve Lacy

Another Odd Future collab with Frank Ocean and Steve Lacy, this is another banger from the Flower Boy album, which still stands as Tyler's most popular project. Featuring every loverboy in the alternative rap space, it’s a totally heartsick anthem about feeling lonely and wishing for someone to call you. There are even more uncredited features on the song, including Anna of the North, A$AP Rocky, and Schoolboy Q.

No. 1: ‘NEW MAGIC WAND’

‘NEW MAGIC WAND’ is a fan favourite song, with shuddering synths and hard-hitting bass that makes the song perfect for pumping up a crowd and starting a mosh pit. If one half of Tyler's discography is R&B-infused love songs, the other half is distorted, industrial rap like this. It’s an amazing song to hear live, with the whole crowd singing along to the refrain of “please don’t leave me now.”
