The highest-selling K-pop girl group of all time are poised to conduct another world tour in 2023, with it set to be their biggest to date. Could this include a number of UK TWICE tour dates?
TWICE are one of, if not the biggest K-pop girl group in music right now, having sold over 10 million albums cumulatively in South Korea and Japan.
Their influence and popularity has spread across the world at a rapid rate since their debut in 2015, with their most recent album, ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’, peaking at the number one spot on the US Billboard for three weeks.
With TWICE being as big a draw as they are, there are expectations that they will conduct a large-scale world tour very soon.
Find out our predictions for if a tour could happen soon, as well as the possibility of a TWICE tour coming to the UK in 2023.
When was the last TWICE album?
TWICE’s last Korean studio album ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’ was released in November 2021. As previously mentioned, it reached number one on the US Billboard chart, as well as number three on the US Billboard 200 (the difference being the latter is for US-specifically popularity, while the former is for worldwide).
It also reached number one on the Korean charts, number two on the Japanese charts, and number 39 on the UK Album Download charts, which was two places down on their previous album, ‘Eyes Wide Open’.
Their most recent studio album was in July 2022, and was a Japanese release named ‘Celebrate’, which as the name suggests celebrated the five year anniversary of their debut in Japan. It reached number two in both of Japan’s major charts (Oricon and Billboard Japan).
TWICE also released an EP (extended play) - or “Mini Album” as their label puts it - in August 2022, titled ‘Between 1&2’.
The EP is their joint-best performing album in the UK, along with 2021’s ‘Taste of Love’ peaking at number 23 on the downloads chart.
When was the last TWICE tour?
The most recent TWICE tour was the ‘III’ tour, also known as the ‘Twice 4th World Tour III’, and was in support of the ‘Formula of Love: O+T=<3’ album.
It was a short tour, with 14 shows in total, running from December 2021 to May 2022. They did conduct an extended run in the US, performing nine shows across the states, including encore shows at the Banc of California Stadium on 14th and 15th May.
Those stadium shows were a massive milestone for the group as well as for female K-pop groups as a whole, as it was the first time a K-pop girl group had held a stadium show in North America.
When is the next TWICE tour?
It is reported that the group will return in the first half of 2023, which is likely to be a new studio album.
It was also said that JYP Entertainment (their main record label) is currently planning a large-scale world tour for the group in 2023, although there are no details of when it will take place yet.
Seeing that TWICE are planning a large-scale world tour and their popularity is growing, including within the UK, the likelihood of a TWICE tour seems quite high.
What venues could host the TWICE tour?
TWICE have played a combination of arenas and stadiums in their previous tours. The encore stadium shows in the US were massive for the group, as was their three-night run at Japan’s Tokyo Dome.
Being that a UK TWICE tour would be their first time performing in Britain, it is likely they won’t go as big as a major stadium, and would opt for arena shows to properly gauge the audience here.
Fellow K-pop girl group BLACKPINK recently completed two shows at the O2 Arena, with a reported audience of 40,000 across both concerts. This could be used as something of a measuring stick, and the O2 could be a possible destination.
BLACKPINK has also performed at the Manchester AO Arena in the past, making it another possible venue for TWICE as it is one of the UK’s leading arenas.
Other leading arenas where TWICE could perform at in the UK are:
- Utilita Arena & Resorts World Arena - Birmingham, England
- First Direct Arena - Leeds, England
- M&S Bank Arena - Liverpool, England
- SSE Arena - Belfast, Northern Ireland
- OVO Hydro - Glasgow, Scotland
- P&J Live - Aberdeen, Scotland
- Utilita Arena Newcastle - Newcastle, England
- Sheffield Arena - Sheffield, England
Each of these venues has a capacity of over 10,000, making them perfect options for the group to welcome a great crowd should their popularity prove to be high.
