10. ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’

Streams: 1,047,141,395

Taken from their seventh album, ‘A Head Full of Dreams’ and released in November 2015, ‘Adventure of a Lifetime’ is one of Coldplay’s catchiest songs with a melodic and upbeat vibe.

The single made it to number seven in the UK charts.

Its super-memorable video features CGI-animated dancing chimpanzees in the jungle, with the chimps played by the band themselves.

Coldplay are known for their stance on all things eco-friendly, and this video sends a strong message on looking after animals and the planet.

9. ‘My Universe’

Streams: 1,290,320,483

Featuring South Korean boy band phenomenon BTS, there’s no wonder that this single has over 1.2billion streams to date.

The futuristic, synthy sounds of ‘My Universe’ are the perfect backdrop for Christ Martin and BTS’ vocals, the latter lending a freshness to the record as well as a new audience for Coldplay.

Released in 2021, the single topped the US’ Billboard Hot 100, and was also one of the most-downloaded songs in the UK for that year.

8. ‘Paradise’

Streams: 1,320,636,821

One of the band’s best-loved hits, ‘Paradise’ has a chorus that will get stuck in your head for weeks.

Released in 2011 from the band’s fifth album, ‘Mylo Xyloto’, this is one of their biggest hits and stadium-fillers and lends itself perfectly to the visual show that the band love to put on when they tour. Just don’t blame us if you have this on a loop for a while to come…

7. ‘Hymn for the Weekend’

Streams: 1,432,915,447

Another superstar making an appearance in the top 10 is Beyoncé, Chris Martin’s long-time friend, who features on this dreamy song filmed in Indian locations such as Mumbai and Kolkata.

In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman revealed that the song was originally intended to be a party anthem with the lyrics “drinks on me, drinks on me”. However, the lyrics were changed to “drink from me” after the band decided fans might not like the boozy message.

Taken from their 2015 album ‘A Head Full of Dreams’, the song has a pop vibe, featuring big piano, as well as a choir.

6. ‘Fix You’

Streams: 1,489,673,955

An early classic for the band, ‘Fix You’ was released back in 2005 from the band’s third album, ‘X&Y’.

The track was written by all four members of the band and explores themes of grief. Married to actress Gwyneth Paltrow at the time, Chris wanted to sing about death in the song to help comfort her after her father passed away.

It features a church organ and a choir, and is a heartfelt track with deep emotional meaning.

The song was featured in ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine’s ‘500 Greatest Songs of All Time’ at number 392, and was also nominated for an Ivor Novello award.

5. ‘A Sky Full of Stars’

Streams: 1,542,329,167

The song has a dancey element to it, and was a new direction for Coldplay when it was released in 2014 from their sixth album, ‘Ghost Stories’.

With EDM and house influences, the song has piano and keyboards by the late mega-producer Avicii, who had described Chris Martin as “like a big brother” in an interview with Rayo.

"I rarely get starstruck," Avicii said, "but with Chris Martin I was starstruck at the beginning.”

4. ‘The Scientist’

Streams: 1,945,534,172

From the band’s second album, ‘A Rush of Blood to the Head’, came mega-hit ‘The Scientist’, released in 2002.

The melancholy song, which is a ballad told by a man who is apologising for his mistakes, was inspired by George Harrison’s ‘All Things Must Pass’.

The video won three MTV Video Awards and is noted for a reverse narrative, starting at the end and finishing at the start. Try to watch it without getting emotional…

3. ‘Viva la Vida’

Streams: 2,167,499,633

‘Viva La Vida’ comes from the band’s fourth album, released in 2008, ‘Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends’.

The title of the song is inspired by famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, who painted lying down because she suffered from polio and a broken spine.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Chris Martin said, "[Kahlo] went through a lot of pain, of course, and then she started a big painting in her house that said 'Viva la Vida', I just loved the boldness of it."

2. ‘Yellow’

Streams: 2,376,683,591

Maybe the quintessential Coldplay song, ‘Yellow’ was the second single that was released from their debut album, ‘Parachutes’, in 2000. The song was a breakthrough hit for the band internationally, charting all over Europe as well as the US.

The song was inspired by the sky at night when the band were recording ‘Parachutes’ in Monmouth, Wales. After taking a break between tracks, the song’s co-producer told the band to “look at the stars” - which went on to become a line in the epic song.

Although this wasn’t their first single from their debut album, this truly has to be the song that made Coldplay a household name.

1. ‘Something Just Like This’

Streams: 2,654,923,385

A single by American DJs The Chainsmokers, featuring Coldplay tops our rundown - with over 2.6billion streams on Spotify to date. It was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the Grammys in 2018.

Released in 2017, the song was huge in the US, and was the ninth biggest-selling single of the year there.
