Sabrina Carpenter’s Best Songs in Order

No. 10: “Thumbs”

“Thumbs” is the second single from Sabrina Carpenter’s second album, Evolution. Released in 2016, Sabrina was still yet to break out of her tweeny-bopper Disney channel star image. She even performed the song at the Radio Disney Music Awards.

The song is electropop mixed with house and jazz, which makes for an interesting song that sounds very different to her latest music. The lyrical content is unique as well, being about people going through the same routines everyday without thinking, “twiddlin’ them thumbs.”

No. 9: “Sue Me”

From Sabrina’s third album Singular: Act I, “Sue Me” is a confidence anthem about moving on and not apologising for being yourself. The song has EDM influences, which was common for the 2018 release and again just shows how much Sabrina has grown and changed as an artist since her earlier albums.

The music video features actress Joey King, a friend of Sabrina’s, and is inspired by the movie Legally Blonde, shot at a university with Sabrina dressed in pink.

No. 8: “Skin”

“Skin” was released as a single in 2021, two weeks after the drama between Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett broke the news. While Sabrina has denied it, many fans think it is a response to Olivia’s smash hit “driver’s license,” as many of the lyrics seem to reference the situation.

A synth-pop track, “Skin” was the first song Sabrina released under Island Records and marks the start of her maturing as an artist and distancing herself from her Disney past. After the dust of her ‘feud’ with Olivia Rodrigo settled, both singers have dominated the charts.

No. 7: “Please Please Please”

“Please Please Please” takes a not-so-fun concept and turns it into a country pop, disco-inspired number. Lyrically, Sabrina begs her partner not to embarrass her, but somehow manages to make it sound upbeat and catchy. To make the song even more iconic, she got her real-life boyfriend, Barry Keoghan, to play her partner-in-crime in the music video.

The single has topped the charts ever since its release and has been nominated at the Grammys for Song of the Year. It’s on Sabrina’s setlist for her tour right now so rest assured, the whole crowd will be singing along with this track.

No. 6: “because i liked a boy”

It’s hard to argue that this track is about anything other than Sabrina’s drama with Olivia Rodrigo, and the lyrics give an in-depth, raw view of the hate Sabrina received online after the release of Olivia’s SOUR album. From the album emails i can’t send, Sabrina managed to turn the hate she got into success, as this is when she started receiving mainstream praise for her music.

No. 5: “Bed Chem”

While this song wasn’t a single for the Short n’ Sweet album, it subsequently went viral and has become one of the most successful songs from the album. “Bed Chem” has a retro vibe, while it’s in the synth-pop genre it’s reminiscent of early 2000s R&B inspired by the likes of Christina Aguilera

The song is both sultry and light-hearted, perfectly showcasing Sabrina’s ability to mix humour with steamy lyricism. It’s undoubtedly a fan favourite song, and on tour Sabrina performs it on a bed surrounded by dancers, adding to the retro, dream-like feel of the song.

No. 4: “Nonsense”

“Nonsense” is the song that catapulted Sabrina Carpenter into the popstar everyone is familiar with today. The song, from her 2022 album emails i can’t send, went viral on TikTok for its clever lyricism. On her Emails I Can’t Send tour, Sabrina changed the lyrics at the end of the song for every city she stopped at.

Videos of her iconic lyric changes have made “Nonsense” one of Sabrina’s signature songs. She even released a holiday version of the song, “A Nonsense Christmas,” if you’d like Sabrina to help you get into the festive spirit.

No. 3: “Feather”

Riding her newfound fame after the success of “Nonsense,” Sabrina released “Feather” on the deluxe version of the emails i can’t send album. Boosted even more so by her stint as opener for Taylor Swift on the Eras tour, it’s no wonder this song went viral as well.

A light-hearted disco-pop song about feeling lighter after breaking up with someone, “Feather” has a great music video that shows men that mistreat Sabrina dying in various accidents, again highlighting her love of adding a funny, tongue-in-cheek touch to her music.

No. 2: "Taste"

“Taste” is the first song on the Short n’ Sweet album, with a pop rock and country sound that starts off the album, and her tour setlist, with a bang. The lyrics contain Sabrina’s classic humorous imagery, telling the story of relationship issues through a light-hearted lens.

The music video for “Taste” is particularly notable. Starring Sabrina and actress Jenna Ortega, the video is heavily inspired by the movie Death Becomes Her, with Sabrina and Jenna trying to kill each other multiple times throughout the video.

No. 1: "Espresso"

There are few other songs that could be Sabrina Carpenter’s best song other than “Espresso.” The single has achieved massively viral status, chart success and Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance. It has an incredibly catchy rhythm and lyrics, making it easy for it to become the song of the summer.

Sabrina uses “Espresso” as the encore song for her Short n’ Sweet tour, and it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. With fun choreography and memorable lyrics, it’ll feel like the whole venue is a retro disco when she’s performing this mega-hit.
