1. The band weren’t originally called the Spice Girls…

One of our favourite Spice Girl facts is that the band were actually named ‘Touch’, and were made up of Victoria, Mel C, Mel B, Geri, and a fifth member called Michelle Stephenson.

Michelle left the group later on in 1994, and was replaced by Emma, to create the group that we know now, reports Hit.com.au.

2. There was a plane named after the Spice Girls

Part of the Virgin Atlantic fleet, the jumbo jet was unveiled in 2007, and was named ‘Spice One’. The NME reveals that 33,000 fans entered a competition to name the plane.

3. Prime Minister at the time Tony Blair was asked to be in the ‘Wannabe’ video…

But he sadly refused to take part, reports Prospect. Looks like the closest we’ll get is Hugh Grant acting as the Prime Minister in the video for ‘Jump’ by Girls Aloud.

4. Geri’s famous Union Jack dress was actually made from a tea towel

In 2010, Geri told Piers Morgan that she’d been sent a little black Gucci dress to wear to the 1997 Brit Awards, but wanting to mix things up, she asked her sister to sew a Union Jack tea towel on the front. Iconic.

5. The girls had their own brand of Spice Girls pizza

Victoria Beckham tweeted in 2014 that her mum had discovered an out-of-date Spice Girls pizza in her freezer. Each letter of the word ‘spice’ had its own flavour, including tuna and cheese, and ham and cheese.

6. The famous video for ‘Wannabe’ was almost shot in Spain

The girls’ first single (with its iconic video, shot at the St Pancras Hotel in London) was meant to be filmed at a house in Barcelona. The location was only changed when video director Johan Camitz couldn’t get permission for the Spanish house, reports The Telegraph.

7. Victoria Beckham was in another group before the Spice Girls

The band was called 'Persuasion', reports Woman and Home. They gigged at disco clubs around the UK, and performed a song called ‘Be the One’.

8. Wannabe made it to number one in 27 countries

And not only that, but it's still the biggest-selling single ever by an all female group - worldwide. Pretty impressive.

9. Beyonce recorded a Victoria Beckham cover

Earlier on in her career, Queen Bey sang a cover of VB’s track ‘Resentment’. But that’s not the only inspiration that Beyonce took from the band.

Victoria revealed on the Breaking Beauty podcast, “I met Beyoncé a few years ago, and she actually said to me, ‘It was the Spice Girls that inspired me and made me want to do what I do and made me proud to be a girl and proud to be who I am.

“When someone like Beyoncé, who is so iconic and was such a strong woman, says that she was inspired by the Spice Girls, I think that’s quite something.”

10. Victoria Beckham’s microphone was often turned off when the band performed

Luckily, Posh appears to be a good sport about it, telling The Independent, "They used to turn [my mic] off and just let the others sing.

"Luckily because I used to wear heels, I just used to jig about a bit and I got away with it, but it never came easily. I was always much more reserved than the other girls.”
