Six Nations 2025 Teams

Now we know the dates of the competition, let's take a look at the individual teams and how they’ll fare in the 2025 competition

Ireland

Ireland will head into the 2025 Six Nations competition as the reigning champions. They dominated in 2024, sweeping the competition to take the crown.

Andy Farrell's side, currently ranked as the number two team in the world, had previously held the number one spot before their defeat against New Zealand in the Rugby World Cup in the summer of 2023.

As the reigning champions, Ireland will be a formidable team to beat in this year's Six Nations tournament. The Irish squad aims to recapture their top form and maintain their dominant position in the championship.

England

England will look to improve upon their 2024 third place finish in the tournament. After starting the tournament off with a strong win against Italy (24-27) they struggled to overcome the Scottish team at Murrayfield in the third round losing 30-21.

With a new named captain in Mario Itoje the English are ready to come back fighting and will be wanting to come out blazing to win this years Six Nations 2025 competition.

Scotland

Scotland had a respectable 2024 Six Nations campaign, finishing with two wins and three losses.

The Scots are ranked sixth in the world, just ahead of England. Scotland are something of the best-of-the-rest side. Up against the top four sides in the world of Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and France, Scotland sometimes look a bit down. But against anyone below them in the rankings, they look just as dominant as those top four.

As strong as they have looked in previous competitions, Scotland are yet to win the Six Nations in its current format since 2000. Could 2025 be their year?

Wales

Wales are the most successful side in Six Nations history, having won the competition 40 times in total, with 28 outright wins and 12 shared wins.

In the Six Nations 2024 Wales had an agonising tournament - losing 5 out of 5 matches. 2025 will is set to be a year of redemption for them as they look to battle back and win against their competitors.

For Wales, they often go through phases of mediocrity before returning to the top. Is 2025too soon to think they could turn things around and return to being a dominant force? Or could it be the start of their new golden generation?

France

France finished as runners-up in the 2024 Six Nations, losing one game and drawing one game.

They last won the Six Nations in 2022, that time taking the Grand Slam victory themselves. Their side has remained largely the same, which is to say still very dominant.

Ranked fourth in the world, France will be looking to transform consecutive second row finishes into a win this campaign.

They will want to put some things to right in their next big international tournament. It could be another battle between themselves and Ireland in the 2025 Six Nation’s Championship.

Italy

Italy are still yet to find success in the Six Nations since joining in 2000 and thus expanding the championship to six teams (hence the name).

Unfortunately for the Italians, they often find themselves as the recipient of the Wooden Spoon, which is awarded to the team that finishes last in the standings each year.

Their 2024 campaign saw them finish 5th, with Wales trailing them. They finished with two wins, 1 draw and 2 losses. A considerable improvement from earlier tournament finishes.

As mentioned earlier, 2025 is a different year. While it may be a bit too much to say they could be in contention for the win, Italy will surely be looking to improve upon their 2024 results.
