When is the NFL in Spain happening?
The NFL announced back in February that it would be expanding its European series of games to hold a match in the Spanish capital on 4th October 2025.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, “Playing a game in Madrid in 2025 highlights the continued expansion of the league's global footprint and the accelerated ambitions to take our game to more fans around the world.”
Where will the NFL Spain 2025 take place?
The game has been confirmed to take place in the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium in Madrid, which can hold up to 85,000 fans.
The city has a rich sporting history, and the Bernabéu is otherwise known as the home of Real Madrid.
It will be the first time that an American Football League match will be played in Spain - and it’s a huge honour for the stadium to host.
Will the NFL play a regular season in Spain in 2025?
This will be the first NFL game that’s hosted in Spain, but if it’s a success Madrid may want to gain a regular long-term contract like Tottenham Hotspur have with the NFL.
The Tottenham Hotspur stadium has extended its deal with the NFL until the 2029-2030 season as the popularity of the sport grows in the UK.
The Spurs stadium, alongside Wembley Stadium, is a venue for regular NFL games in London and later this year will be hosting the likes of the New York Jets vs the Minnesota Vikings, as well as the Jacksonville Jaguars vs the Chicago Bears.
Which teams could take part in the NFL Spain?
It’s yet to be announced which teams will go head-to-head in the game, however SportsPro reports that the Miami Dolphins and the Chicago Bears are both strong contenders to take part because they both have international marketing rights in Spain.
With fans asking ‘Are the Miami Dolphins playing in Spain?’ all over internet forums, they’ll certainly be keen to see the likes of wide receiver Tyreek Hill in action.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins’ Tua Tagovailoa has been named as one of the NFL's most important players for the upcoming 2024 season, which is due to start in September.
If the Bears’ take part, fans will want to keep an eye on the likes Rome Odunze, who has been analysed by ESPN as the best pick of the NFL draft. Quarterback Caleb Williams was also a number one pick and is another fan favourite.
