What is Jump Racing?

Jump racing, or National Hunt racing, is a horse racing event where horses clear obstacles including ditches and fences by jumping over them - effectively the equestrian version of hurdles. Jump racing runs all year round but the majority of National Hunt racing takes place in the Autumn and Winter months.

Bigger races run from late October through to April, with this period often being referred to as the ‘jump race season.’ The reason jump racing takes place during winter is because the ground is softer, and therefore safer for horses to jump.

Jump races can be some of the most exciting to watch trackside, as the horses bound over the obstacles in impressive feats of athleticism. Keep reading to learn some of the amazing jump races you can buy VIP tickets for now at Seat Unique!
