With a new album set to be released in January 2023, and shows already booked throughout the year, will the iconic Iggy Pop be going on tour soon, and will that tour be coming to the UK at some point? Here are our predictions.
Iggy Pop has been dazzling fans since the 1960s, and at 75 years old, he has no intention of slowing down.
With a new album coming at the beginning of 2023, the ‘Godfather of Punk’ is looking to busy himself in the next 12 months, with multiple shows planned across Europe in the year.
Find out where Pop will be playing in 2023, the speculation on a tour and where he could perform in the UK.
What is Iggy Pop’s new album?
Iggy Pop’s newest album, which will take his total to 19 solo studio albums, is named ‘Every Loser’ and is set to be released on 6th January 2023.
The Stooges former frontman returns with his ever-unique sound, bringing the level of energy that made him into the leading rocker he became and that was used to change music for good.
The first single from the album is titled ‘Frenzy’, and was released earlier this year. It is described by NME as “a hysterical, biting warning of the rest of the album’s energy”, while Pop said in the interview with them that “It’s based on a bit of personal experience and a little bit of how visibly nuts I am”.
‘Every Loser’ is Pop’s first release on record label Atlantic’s partnership with Gold Tooth Records, another label that was founded by music producer Andrew Watt, who is the mastermind behind releases from Post Malone and Ozzy Osbourne.
Where is Iggy Pop performing in 2023?
At present, the punk rocker has three shows scheduled for 2023, all of which are one-off concerts.
The first is at a new music venue in Chicago, USA, named ‘The Salt Shed’. His already sold-out show will be one of the first at the new venue in March.
His schedule will then take him to the UK for a show in Crystal Palace Park, London. The one-off special show, titled ‘Dog Day Afternoon’ will feature himself, Blondie and Billy Idol-fronted Generation Sex. The concert will be held on 1st July.
Festival season will then take him to Romania for the Electric Castle Festival on 19th-23rd July, before he heads to Portlaw, Ireland for the All Together Now Festival on 4th-6th August.
It’s expected that Pop will play music from his new album, as well as some of his old beloved songs, such as ‘The Passenger’ and ‘Lust For Life’, for all his currently scheduled shows.
Will Iggy Pop tour in 2023?
With a new album out and plans to be busy performing during the summer, speculation is rife that an Iggy Pop tour could go ahead at some point during the year.
Pop’s last solo tour was in 2016, with the ‘Post Pop Depression Tour’. He performed 21 dates, with 14 in North America and seven in Europe, including one at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
The singer will be accompanying the Red Hot Chili Peppers for four dates of their ‘Global Stadium Tour’. He will take to the stage for their shows in Poland, Denmark, France and Austria.
Where could Iggy Pop’s tour visit?
It’s hard to predict exactly where Iggy Pop will perform should he conduct a new tour.
While he has the pedigree of a big-time act who could play stadium shows, they are often a big risk for older artists if it isn’t accompanied by another big star act.
An arena tour would be more likely, and if so, there are a number of suitable arenas that could host the original punk rock star.
There are the bigger arenas, such as Manchester’s AO Arena, Birmingham’s Utilita Arena, and Leeds’ First Direct Arena.
As mentioned earlier, he has previously played at the Royal Albert Hall in London. He has also played at the Barbican Centre, Southbank Centre, the Clapham Grand, and the O2 Academy Brixton (all in London).
