In 1810, the official Racing Calendar began to record there, with thoroughbred horses appearing and prizes on offer.

After the First World War, the course moved from the South Denes to its present day location at the North Denes.

Now, the course features the Lord Nelson Grandstand, built in 2004, as well as bars, restaurants and a mile-long track known to be one of the best for flat racing in the country.
