With the 2025 Grand National coming up, horseracing fanatics are very excited to see who will come in first place this year. The Grand National is so popular because its tricky jumps and unpredictable terrain means that often the most unexpected runner can win the race.

2024 – I Am Maximus
I Am Maximus is a nine year old gelding hailing from France, and has managed to win an impressive six races in his life so far. Of course, the most notable of those was the 2024 Grand National – and he doesn’t plan to stop there. Just like legendary winner Red Rum, I Am Maximus has his eyes set on a hat trick, and he’s one of the favourites to win this year.
2023 – Corach Rambler
Corach Rambler is an Irish bay, and while now retired he has many wins under his belt including the 2023 Grand National and the Ultima Handicap at Cheltenham. Corach Rambler won the big steeplechase by two and a quarter lengths ahead of Vanillier, and it was the second win for jockey Derek Fox and trainer Lucinda Russell, who had also won in 2017 with One For Arthur.
2022 – Noble Yeats
Noble Yeats’ 2022 win was a historic one, as he was the first seven year old to win the Grand National since Bogskar in 1940. He was young and practically a novice, as the horse had only won a beginner’s chase by a head in Galway that season before being entered into the Grand National. He did come from good blood though, as his sire is Yeats, winner of the Ascot Gold Cup from 2006 to 2009.
2021 – Minella Times
Another historic win, Minella Times was the first horse ridden by a female jockey to win the Grand National. Rachael Blackmore was the winning jockey, and she also has six victories at Cheltenham Festival. It may have taken a couple seasons to come out on top, but Minella Times retired a successful horse.
2019 & 2018 – Tiger Roll
It’s not often that a horse manages to win the Grand National more than one year in a row – especially given how unpredictable it is, and how easily your path can be obstructed by other horses and lead to falling or injury. Not for Tiger Roll, however, the superstar horse that has also won five times at Cheltenham Festival.
2017 – One For Arthur
One For Arthur is only the second horse bred in Scotland to win the Grand National, and was trained by Lucinda Russell who has trained many other successful racehorses. One For Arthur only started with odds of 14/1 out of 40 runners, ridden by accomplished jockey Derek Fox. He overtook the favourite, Blaklion, for a win that made Scotland proud.
2016 – Rule The World
Rule The World was only a novice when he won in 2016, despite his high-class form. After getting runner-up in a few novice races, he entered the Grand National with odds of 33/1. That’s what makes the Grand National such a thrilling race – it could be the horse at the back of the pack who ends up with the trophy.
2015 – Many Clouds
Many Clouds was a seasoned racehorse by the time the 2014/15 season rolled around, starting off strong by winning the Colin Parker Memorial Chase. The winning time was eight minutes and 58 seconds, and no horse of such a high weight had won since Red Rum in 1974. He was also the first horse to win both the Gold Cup and the Grand National in the same season.
2014 – Pineau De Re
Pineau De Re, a French-bred British-trained gelding, starting the 2014 season with ups and downs. He finished fifth in a hurdle chase at Cheltenham, but then fell in the Becher Chase. He started the Grand National with odds of 25/1, but that clearly didn’t make him give up, as he won by five lengths ahead of favourite Balthazar King.
