Fulham's first FA Cup appearance was during the 1903/1904 season following their success through 7 qualifying rounds. Their debut match resulted in a 1-0 loss to Woolwich Arsenal in the first round. Fulham's steady progression through the ranks, from the First Division of the Southern League in 1903 to Division 2 in 1907, culminated in their first significant FA Cup run.
The team logged impressive victories against Norwich City, Manchester City, and Manchester United, before their campaign ended with a Semi Final loss to Newcastle United.
Early FA Cup Milestones
Fulham’s best FA Cup win came back in 1907 when they defeated Luton Town 8-3. After painful semi final losses in 1958 against Manchester United and Burnley in 1962, Fulham finally booked their place in 1975’s FA Cup final.
To get to the final they battled through seven matches including against top teams including Hull City, Everton, Nottingham Forest and beating Birmingham City with an 119th minute goal by John Mitchell. Unfortunately in the final they fell short, with West Ham clinching the trophy in a match that finished 2-0.
Best Fulham FA Cup Moments
There have been plenty of standout moments for Fulham in the FA Cup. During Fulham's 1938/39 FA Cup campaign, striker Ronnie Rooke helped the team beat Bury 6-0 in a third round tie, scoring all 6 goals. This record has not been matched by any team or player since.
In the 1995/1996 season, Fulham set a new record when they beat Swansea City 7-0 at Craven Cottage in the first round of the competition. The final scoreline remains the largest win in the FA Cup over a team playing in a higher division.
This season has been full of excitement, including Bernd Leno's standout performance against Manchester United in the Fifth Round. The Fulham goalkeeper saved two critical penalties to eliminate Manchester United, the previous year's winner. Next, the team face fellow London Premier League team Crystal Palace at Craven Cottage.
