With Ukrainian fighter Oleksandr Usyk gearing up to vacate his WBO heavyweight title, it paves the way for Daniel Dubois to potentially face fellow Brit Anthony Joshua for the vacant belt.

This development signals a clear path for Joshua's quest to reclaim the title and make a mark as a three-time champion in boxing's premier division.

Usyk made the announcement of relinquishing his belt via social media to focus on his upcoming rematch with Tyson Fury, declaring, "Anthony and Daniel, listen. I know IBF title is important to you. Take it, my present to you. On September 21 guys."

The caption read: 'Hey @anthonyjoshua, @DynamiteDubois, The IBF Belt is my present for you for 21.09.2024. The world loves strong. Your friend, Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World, Oleksandr Usyk.'

Who is Daniel Dubois fighting next?

Dubois has held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) interim heavyweight title since June 2024. He previously held the World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight title from 2022 to 2023.

Having been defeated by Usyk last year, Dubois, who now holds the IBF interim belt, would have been the mandatory challenger for Usyk. However, Usyk is obligated to face Fury in their slated rematch scheduled for December 2024. Anthony Joshua, who also suffered a loss at the hands of Usyk, has since successfully rebounded from that setback.

According to Sky Sports, the 26-year-old Dubois challenged Usyk for the WBO, WBA, and IBF titles at the Wroclaw Stadium in Poland last August. Despite a valiant effort from Dubois, Usyk had to overcome adversity, including a low blow incident that Dubois and his team still contest, to ultimately stop Dubois in the ninth round.

Subsequently, Dubois went on to defeat Jarrell Miller in December 2023 and claimed the IBF Interim strap by halting Filip Hrgovic at the beginning of this month.

Expressing his aspirations, Dubois declared after his recent victory, "Being world champion is a dream. From challenging for the world title to getting the chance to win it outright, that's what I want."

Dubois confidently remarked, "I'll demolish Joshua. I'll get even better from here." Looking ahead to reclaim his former spot in the division. He added, "I've got to pick them off one by one. It's not going to be easy, but that's my mentality. So come one, come all."

Dubois will square off against Joshua for the IBF title later this year.
