Daniel Dubois’ early life and amateur career

Born in Greenwich, south London, in 1997, heavyweight boxer Dubois first got into boxing aged nine when his father took him to the gym to keep him occupied and out of trouble.

His sister Caroline is a professional bantamweight boxer who has competed at the Olympics, while his brother Prince is also a boxer.



After boxing for England as a teenager, Dubois gained a place on the UK Olympic team with a view to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but left before the games so that he could go professional.

Daniel Dubois’ professional debut

Dubois’ first fight in 2017 as a pro resulted in a knockout against Marcus Kelly within the first 35 seconds.

His punch is so hard that he has the nickname ‘Dynamite’.


He has been described by BBC boxing journalist Mike Costello as “one of the brightest prospects in the sport at the moment.”

Dubois won the English heavyweight title in 2018, before rising up the ranks, with wins against Trevor Bryan in 2022 and Kevin Lerena in 2023, although he also suffered a knockout to Oleksandr Usyk in 2023. His win against Filip Hrgović in June 2024 has been lauded as his biggest achievement to date.
