No. 7: ‘Let Somebody Go’ ft. Selena Gomez
‘Let somebody Go’ was released on the Music of the Spheres album in 2021, featuring popstar Selena Gomez. The song is a soft rock ballad, making use of Selena’s unique and evocative vocal tone. The lyrics detail the emotions felt after a breakup, which can be felt as Chris Martin and Selena Gomez’s vocals compliment each other.
A fun fact about this song is that Apple Martin, Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter, is credited on the song as she supposedly provided a chord that Chris ended up using in the track.
No. 6: ‘Something Just Like This’ ft. The Chainsmokers
‘Something Just Like This’ incorporates EDM, clearly an influence from The Chainsmokers. The chorus has a catchy hook reminiscent of their other hit single ‘Closer.’ The song debuted at the Brit Awards in 2017, with Chris Martin and the Chainsmokers performing together on stage.
The song was very successful, charting well and receiving 2.1 billion views on the lyric video, remaining one of Youtube's most-watched videos.
No. 5: ‘Fun’ ft. Tove Lo
‘Fun’ features on Coldplay’s 2015 A Head Full of Dreams album, featuring Swedish singer Tove Lo who is known for her most popular singles ‘Talking Body’ and ‘Habits.’ The song can be described as pop rock overall, mixing a little bit of electronic synths with distorted guitars, making the whole track seem mysterious and almost dark.
Rumour has it this song was written about Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s divorce, with lyrics like “But didn't we have fun? / Don't say it was all a waste,” alluding to a breakup and reminiscing on happier times.
No. 4: ‘Lost!’ ft. Jay-Z
The song ‘Lost!’ is from Coldplay’s album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and the version featuring a rap version by Jay-Z is called ‘Lost+’. The song was released way back in 2008, when Jay-Z’s fame was also at its peak, and was apparently inspired by the drumbeat from Justin Timberlake’s ‘Cry Me A River.’
The song’s composition is almost gospel, with organs, church bells, and a soaring guitar solo that brings it all together.
No. 3: ‘My Universe’ ft. BTS
‘My Universe’ is a song that brings together British rock and K-pop, as BTS feature as a group on this 2021 hit. As with any Coldplay song, it has a chorus perfect for repeating over and over at a concert, an upbeat synth-pop tune with both English and Korean lyrics.
It was reportedly BTS that reached out to Coldplay first to collaborate, citing the band as an inspiration to them. Coldplay went on to write another song with BTS member Jin, called ‘The Astronaut.’

‘Princess of China’ was incredibly popular upon its release in 2012, charting highly in multiple countries and receiving particular acclaim for its music video. With Chris Martin and Rihanna acting as lovers who seem to be sword fighting one moment and getting back together the next, the video currently has 283 million views.
Rihanna’s voice works perfectly in the song, and it’s clear to see why Chris Martin wrote the song specifically for her to feature on.

When ‘Hymn For The Weekend’ was released, Beyoncé’s vocals were uncredited, leaving her voice as a surprise for first-time listeners. She does however appear in the music video for the song, which was mostly shot in India and is the band’s most-viewed music video.
Beyoncé’s R&B vocals help the song massively, making it one of the grooviest on the album. It remains a fan favourite on concert setlists with lyrics about being intoxicated by love, and having an angelic person in your life.
