Chris Eubank Jr, son of British boxing legend and two-division world boxing champion Chris Eubank Sr, has had his next fight confirmed, with all the details set.

After a disappointing outcome in his last proposed fight, Eubank Jr will be hungry to get back into the ring and onto the championship track.

Chris Eubank Jr Last Fight

Chris Eubank Jr’s last fight (that actually happened) was a comfortable victory over Liam Williams in Cardiff.

He won via unanimous decision in a dominant display despite his opponent having a home advantage.

Eubank Jr scored four knockdowns during the bout, with the first coming in the opening round, setting the tone for what was a routine victory for “Next Gen”.

Eubank Jr was set to go toe-to-toe with Conor Benn in something of a grudge match. Both Eubank Jr’s and Benn’s fathers, Chris Eubank Sr and Nigel Benn, were top British boxers in the 1980s and 90s.

They had one of the fiercest rivalries in boxing history which ran throughout the early 90s, culminating in two fights.

Eubank Sr came away the victor in the first fight, then three years later in the weight class up and now with both holding belts, it was a title unification fight that was a true boxing classic, despite ending in a draw.

Eurbank Jr and Conor Benn were scheduled to pick up where their fathers had left off, but just days before the fight, Benn tested positive for a banned substance when he was subject to a random drug test.

While both fighters, their teams and the promoters wanted to carry on, the British Board of Boxing Control prohibited the fight from happening. The fight has since been postponed, as Benn was not suspended or charged with a rule violation.

Chris Eubank Jr Next Fight Opponent

Chris Eubank Jr will be facing his toughest opponent to date, as he takes on former WBO light-middleweight champion and fellow Brit, Liam ‘Beefy’ Smith.

34-year-old Smith is an accomplished fighter with a record of 32 wins (19 by KO), three losses and one draw.

He won the vacant WBO light-middleweight championship in October 2015. He made two successful defences of the belt before dropping it in a loss to Canelo Alvarez.

Smith has won his last three fights, each of which by TKO. Like Eubank Jr, he has been building his way back up the rankings to gain a potential championship bout.

‘Beefy’ fights in the super welterweight division, one below Eubank Jr’s middleweight class. He is ranked third in the WBC rankings and second in the WBO rankings.

Eubank Jr is ranked first in the WBA, third in WBC and fourth in the WBO rankings.

The fight is likely to happen at middleweight division, meaning Smith will have to pile on a couple of KG’s to get up to the weight class.

The smack talk has already begun between the two, with Smith claiming in an interview with Sky Sports that he is a “tougher fight than Conor Benn”.

Chris Eubank Jr Next Fight Date & Venue

Eubank Jr vs Smith will kick off the British boxing year, with the fight happening on Saturday 21st January 2023.

It will be held at the Manchester AO Arena, something of a neutral ground for the two, although that is a lot closer to Smith’s hometown of Liverpool than it is to Eubank Jr’s Hove hometown.
