Chris Brown’s Best Albums in Order

No. 10: ‘Breezy’

Released in 2022, Breezy was the follow-up album to Chris Brown’s 2019 offering, Indigo. Brown is known for mixing R&B and hip-hop, and Breezy has his usual R&B delivery with influences of trap and soul. The first half of the 24 songs serve as the trap side, with the second half leaning more into soul.

Featuring artists like Lil Wayne, Lil Baby, Anderson .Paak, Jack Harlow, and Wizkid, the album debuted at number four on the charts and helped Chris Brown surpass Elvis Presley as the eighth artist with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100.

No. 9: ‘Royalty’

Royalty is dedicated to and named after Chris Brown’s daughter, who appears on the cover of the 2018 album. He explained that the album was a representation of his life experiences at the time when he was becoming a father, and the tracklist contains much less features than his previous work indicating the intimate nature of it.

No. 8: ‘Indigo’

Indigo, released in 2019, has some pretty big features on it, like Nicki Minaj, Drake, Tyga, and Justin Bieber. The standout from the album has to be ‘No Guidance’ featuring Drake, as the two superstars put their feud aside to create a song that now has over one billion streams on Spotify.

The album as a whole has a spiritual and sensual feel, from the cover art to the lyrics in songs like ‘Emerald/Burgundy’ and ‘Natural Disaster/Aura.’ The clear imagery and themes of the album make it a standout in his discography.

No. 7: ‘11:11’

Fittingly, 11:11 is Chris Brown’s 11th album, released in 2023. His most recent album, 11:11 has the classic R&B sound we have come to expect from Chris Brown along with influences from Afrobeats and dancehall that are becoming increasingly common in mainstream hip-hop music.

The album is made up of two discs, with 11 songs on each, taking a break from the long tracklists of his previous albums. Including a summer hit, ‘Summer Too Hot,’ he earned four Grammy nominations and some of the best reviews he’d had in years.

No. 6: ‘Heartbreak on Full Moon’

Heartbreak on a Full Moon has a hefty tracklist of 45 songs, which ended up receiving mixed reviews from critics and fans alike as they debated over Chris Brown’s performance versus the length of the album. Despite criticism, other R&B artists began to follow suit and release albums with over 20 songs.

The album has a darker and more moody, sultry vibe than Chris Brown’s other albums, with heavy lyrical emphasis on breakups and escaping sorrows through a hedonistic lifestyle.

No. 5: ‘Fortune’

Fortune had a more futuristic feel, with blue album art and influences of electronic music to set it apart from his previous works. The lyrics do have a lot of the same themes as the majority of his discography, with songs about promiscuity, hedonism, and clubbing, but that is what so many of his fans love about his music.

No. 4: ‘X’

‘X’ has songs featuring artists like Kendrick Lamar, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Trey Songz, Lil Wayne, Jhene Aiko, and Aaliyah (posthumously), making for a pretty stacked tracklist full of artists who are famous for their R&B and hip-hop sound. While the album was released amid controversy for Chris Brown, it still debuted at number two on the Billboard charts and was eventually certified double platinum.

No. 3: ‘F.A.M.E.’

F.A.M.E. is one of the albums that catapulted Chris Brown into mainstream success, making fans call him the King of R&B and the next Michael Jackson. Featuring hit singles like ‘Yeah 3x,’ ‘Look At Me Now,’ and ‘Beautiful People,’ it served peak party music when it was most popular in the early 2010s.

With Timbaland as a producer along with Kevin McCall, Diplo, and Benny Benassi, the album was bound to be a hit. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart, and eventually received the Best R&B Album Grammy award, cementing it as a classic.

No. 2: ‘Exclusive’

At this time it was like everything Chris Brown touched turned into a platinum-certified hit, with his sophomore album Exclusive being considered the album that made him a star. There was tough competition that year with Justin Timberlake and Rihanna both releasing era-defining albums too, but Chris Brown’s R&B proved equally popular.

‘Kiss Kiss’ ft. T-Pain and ‘With You’ are standouts, remaining some of Chris Brown’s highest-charting singles of all time. He also enlisted the help of producer duo, StarGate, who were behind many of Rihanna’s most successful songs of that era.

No. 1: ‘Chris Brown’

Although Chris Brown was his debut album, and he was only a high schooler at the time, the album remains his most iconic. Many of his songs were about his teenage love life, a stark difference to the more overtly promiscuous songs of his recent albums.

Chris Brown debuted at number two, an incredible feat for his first album. Eventually it was certified double platinum, and gave him his first and ultimately most memorable boost into the mainstream.
