Beyoncé is one of the biggest R&B and pop stars the music industry has ever seen. Jay Z is one of the biggest hip hop stars the music industry has ever seen. Put them two together and you get quite possibly the most powerful power couple there has ever been in music.

The Carters have collaborated with one another many times, dating back to 2002 on Jay Z’s ‘The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse’ album.

Here, we’re looking at some of the best collaborations between the spouses and list our top five Beyoncé and Jay Z songs of all time.

1. Crazy In Love

The number one spot on this list absolutely has to be ‘Crazy In Love’, from Beyoncé’s debut solo album ‘Dangerously in Love’ from 2003.

While Destiny’s Child had put Beyoncé into the limelight as a star, it was ‘Crazy In Love’ and her debut album that made people take notice of her as a future leading solo artist.

‘Crazy In Love’ was an instant hit, shooting to number one in the UK and US official charts. It has been certified Platinum in multiple countries, including:

  • 9x Platinum in Australia
  • 6x Platinum in US
  • 5x Platinum in Canada
  • 3x Platinum in UK
  • 2x Platinum in Japan
  • 1x Platinum in Denmark, Portugal & Italy

The song was also nominated for Record of the Year at the 2004 Grammy Awards, but unfortunately lost out to Coldplay and their song, ‘Clocks’.

2. Deja Vu

‘Déjà Vu’ was the lead single off of Beyoncé’s second solo album, ‘B’Day’. The upbeat track is a catchy tune and has an easy flow. It blends R&B and Hip hop perfectly, coined as a contemporary R&B song, performed in a moderate hip hop groove.

Many critics loved the song, with Caroline Sullivan of ‘The Guardian’ saying Jay Z’s feature on the track brings out “something formidable in Beyoncé that evokes the young, feral Tina Turner”. It was also described as a sequel to her ‘Crazy In Love’.

The track reached the number one spot on the Official UK Singles Chart, but has only received Silver certification to this day. On the reverse, it only reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100, but has been certified Platinum.

3. Drunk In Love

First they were crazy, now they’re Drunk in Love!

‘Drunk in Love’ was one of two lead singles from Beyoncé’s self-titled fifth studio album. It has been labelled a follow up to ‘Crazy In Love’, and for more reasons than just the name.

While ‘Crazy In Love’ was more about Beyoncé being so overtaken by love and is sung as sorts, with the singer fully flexing her vocal range, ‘Drunk In Love’ is sung by a more sensual and confident Beyoncé, depicting her with more control this time round.

The track was met with critical acclaim, although it didn’t initially perform as well in the charts. It peaked at number two in the US and only number nine in the UK.

However, it has gone on to be one of Beyoncé’s biggest hits, now being certified six-time Platinum in the US and two-time Platinum in the UK.

4. 03’ Bonnie & Clyde

Their first collaboration together, Beyoncé accompanied Jay Z on the track ‘03’ Bonnie & Clyde’ as part of his 2002 album ‘The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse’.

Bey and Jay were already dating at this time, but this was the first time they had worked together on a track. Thai was also Beyoncé’s first solo recording.

The song is essentially a modern hip hop version of the story of Bonnie & Clyde, an American criminal couple from the Great Depression era.

It was one of the big hits off the album as it was released as the lead single. It reached number four on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number two on the UK singles chart. It is certified Gold in both regions.

5. Upgrade U

For our final pick, we return to Beyoncé’s ‘B’Day’ album for ‘Upgrade U’. It wasn’t released as a lead single on the album, but instead was released as a promotional single (which essentially means free song) by Columbia Records, the label Beyoncé was with at the time.

This pick is a bit more out there, but we have picked it for the fact that it performed admirably considering it wasn’t officially released in the UK.

To date, it has received Silver certification in the UK and Platinum in the US. It peaked at number 59 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and 11 on the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Beyoncé will be going on tour later in 2023, performing hits from her latest album ‘Renaissance’. The tour has been highly anticipated by the 'Beyhive' for months now, and finally it has been confirmed that she will be going on a world stadium tour.
