What happened in the 2023 Ashes?

The 2023 Ashes were held in England, and was full of the usual twists and turns that make the series so thrilling to watch. The venues were Edgbaston, Lord’s, Headingley, Old Trafford, and The Oval.

In the first Test, England narrowly lost by two wickets. Despite England’s aggressive approach and attacking batting, Australia chased down 281 runs in the final innings.

By the second match it was starting to look dire, as Australia won again at Lord’s by 43 runs. It was a tight contest, and the match was marred by some controversy over the dismissal of Jonny Bairstow. Bairstow was stumped by Alex Carey after leaving his crease, and Australia controversially appealed for his dismissal. England was furious, but the decision stood, leading to a fiery aftermath.

In the third Test at Headingley, England managed to bounce back with a three-wicket victory. However this victory was short-lived as a draw at Old Trafford meant Australia retained the ashes.

When was the last time England won The Ashes?

The last time England won The Ashes was in the 2015 series. It was a major achievement as it was the first time they had won since 2009, with Australia dominating the seasons in between. Key players Ben Stokes and Joe Root helped bring the team to victory with significant contributions with ball and bat.
